Announcement by BMZ and ITU: Joint action on bridging the gender digital divide

Minister Svenja Schulze and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General-elect of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced joint action on bridging the gender digital divide at the [digital.global] kick-off event on 1st December 2022 in Berlin. The e-learning platform atingi will join EQUALS, the global partnership for gender equality in the digital age. With EQUALS partners, atingi will empower women through digital skills development. Furthermore, ITU and BMZ agreed on the need of strengthening women leadership in digital ecosystems of partner countries. A global Network of Women Digital Ministers would be one of the potential avenues for joint action in the future. The new collaboration comes in the wake of BMZ’s feminist development policy and is part of Germany’s efforts towards an inclusive digital transformation.
