Mid-October, the Gig Economy Initiative officially launched their Mentorship and Online Freelancer Training (OFT) Replication Toolkits: two practical resources designed to make digital skills training for gig workers easier to replicate and adapt around the world.
Building from the experience gained in Morocco, Ghana, Kenya, and India, these toolkits represent a summary of best practices learnt in previous successful programmes. They provide a clear roadmap for organisations aiming to design and implement effective digital skills and mentoring programmes at scale.
The Mentorship Toolkit strengthens women’s participation in the gig economy through peer learning strategies that foster confidence, connection, and long-term engagement. Whilst the OFT Toolkit opens the door to the world of online freelancing for institutions and workers alike, offering guidance from training design to implementation.
The close collaboration with 21CC Education and practical inputs from Soronko Academy and Afri-Consult anchored the launch in the realities of digital skills experts based in Ghana and India. Joined by a global network of experts who have accompanied the toolkit development from start to finish, the event was both a celebration and an exploration of future potential.
What’s next? Participants are invited to join the Platform Practitioner’s Circle: a space which acknowledges the need for platform experts to exchange ideas, explore future use-cases and to share opportunities for collaboration. Because one thing is clear: platform work is here to stay and together, we can make sure it’s fair and decent work for all.
