In September 2025, the Ghana AI Practitioners’ Guide was officially launched, marking a pivotal step towards the ethical and responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) across the nation.

The Ghana AI Practitioners’ Guide (GAIPG) provides a comprehensive and inclusive framework for responsible AI governance. It offers practical guidance for every stage of the AI lifecycle: from design and development to deployment, specifically tailored to the Ghanaian context. The guide aims to demystify AI governance, ensuring that technology is harnessed for inclusive growth while safeguarding against potential risks and biases.

Developed by Heritors Labs, in collaboration with BMZ’s FAIR Forward – Artificial Intelligence for All initiative, its launch is a clear commitment by Ghana to become a leader in contextually aware, ethically grounded AI innovation in Africa.

The AI ecosystem in Ghana is growing rapidly, and this guide provides much-needed clarity on who is doing what, serving as a vital tool to bring us all together. To truly harness this growth, we must learn from countries with established AI policies and strategically position Ghana within the African Union and AfCFTA frameworks. Crucially, our development efforts must focus on creating AI solutions that speak and understand our local languages, ensuring the technology is inclusive and relevant to all Ghanaians.

The guide will equip AI practitioners with the right frameworks to develop AI solutions in a responsible, ethical and impactful way that is befitting of the Ghanaian.

Now available to businesses, innovators, researchers, students, developers, and policymakers, the GAIPG facilitates the adoption of fair, accountable, and transparent AI practices across all sectors in Ghana.
