Blockchain for bees: start-up The Source Plus uses innovation to protect biodiversity

In Kenya, The Source Plus is committed to protecting bees and thus ensuring stable ecosystems and food security. Its blockchain system as part of the app Apitrace makes honey supply chains transparent—from the hive to the market. At the same time, it warns beekeepers about pesticides and helps protect bee colonies in a timely manner. But The Source Plus hasn’t just developed an app; it also sells sustainably produced honey.

As a selected start-up in the Digital and Green Innovation Acceleration Program, The Source Plus took part in targeted trainings, conferences, and networking events with investors.

With support from BMZ and the EU under the Team Europe Action Digital and Green Innovation, the team is on its ways to acquire the official license to trade honey to the EU and are close to become Kenya`s first and only licensed honey exporter to the EU.
